THE RISEN JESUS CHRIST
After the salvation mission of Jesus was completed on earth, He was “taken up”, and a cloud received Him out of the disciples’ sight (Acts 1:9). As they looked intently heavenwards, two men clothed in white stood by them. They explained that Jesus, who just was taken up into heaven, will also return in a similar manner.
The works of the Lord Jesus while He was on earth were seen by angels – from the time of His birth to the hour of His death, burial and resurrection. We read in the Gospel accounts of the following:
- Angel Gabriel proclaimed to Mary that she was most blessed to be chosen to bear the Son of the Most High God (Luke 1:26-37).
- An angel assured Joseph not to hesitate to take Mary as his betrothed wife (Matt 1:19, 20).
- Angels came and ministered to Jesus after He successfully overcame the devil’s temptations in the wilderness (Matt. 4:11).
- An angel appeared to Jesus from heaven, strengthening Him in His hour before the betrayal, trial and crucifixion (Luke 22:43).
- An angel of the Lord descended from heaven and rolled back the stone that sealed the tomb. The angel met the women who came to embalm the body of Jesus, and told them that “He is not here, He has risen”. (Matt 28:1 – 8).
This Mystery of Godliness, God’s wonderful gospel, is so great that angels eagerly desire and long to look at or intently gaze at it (1 Peter 1:10). This Mystery of Godliness is reported to us by those who preached the gospel by the Holy Spirit.
Just as Jesus was seen by angels, angels are watching the affairs of the world (Dan. 4:13, 23; 1 Cor. 4:9). The angels are keenly interested in the salvation of people and rejoice when one sinner repents (Lk. 15:10). Our little children have angels who are in God’s Presence. They are ministering spirits sent to believers who will inherit salvation (Heb. 1:14). As fellow servants of God, brethren of prophets and of those who obey God’s Word, angels are not be worshipped (Rev. 19:10; Col 2:18) although their appearance can inspire awe (Matt 28:3-4). Indeed, believers will judge angels when Jesus Christ comes again (1 Cor. 6:3). Let all the angelic beings worship The Risen Jesus Christ Who is the Lord of all (Heb 1:6).
