Jesus Our Superior Counsel

Recently a Mega Church in Singapore was investigated for church fund mismanagement. Some of the leaders were charged for alleged criminal breach of trust, falsifying Church accounts, “round tripping” funds, etc. However, the Church made the statement that “the church did not lose any funds in the relevant transactions, and no personal profit was gained by the individuals concerned.” This is like a family member being charged for an alleged loss of family funds and the family saying that no fund was lost. These Church leaders retain lawyers who are Senior Counsels to defend them when their cases come before Judges. They engage the best legal help available in Singapore in their defence of these alleged charges.

We face the charge from God that “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” and “the wages of sin is death”. If this charge is not taken care of, we will be judged guilty and sent into an eternity separate from God. We desperately need help in this situation. Thankfully, our loving God who charged us also gave us not a Senior Counsel but a Superior Counsel, His beloved Son Jesus, to intercede for us. Jesus is the perfect Sacrifice by His death on the cross that is acceptable to God – He shed His blood for the forgiveness of our sins. Jesus the Superior Counsel presents our case in heaven before God and wins the case for us. When we accept Jesus’ redemption proposal for salvation, God forgives us and gives us eternal life.

The writer of Hebrews states: “For Christ … entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God’s presence. He has appeared once for all at the culmination of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of Himself. Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and He will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for Him” (Heb. 9:24, 26, 28). The wonderful truth is that Jesus is the Sacrifice “Lamb of God”, the Great High Priest, the Mediator and the Superior Counsel who is in heaven interceding on our behalf. He is the Superior Counsel given to us by God on a “pro bono” (without charge) basis to intercede for us. His mediation is accepted by God and results in all the charges against us being settled. Praise The Lord for our Superior Counsel – Jesus.
