20111218
For the year 2011 we were presented with the Theme Verse by our Elder David Lee at our Watchnight Service on 31 December 2010: “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Eph. 2:10). We spent a good part of the year on the study of the book of Ephesians. This study showed us as being chosen, crafted, called and consecrated by God and led us to know the Christian character and conduct required of us. We applied the teachings from “Ephesians” in our daily lives wherever God has placed us to be salt and light in the world. Praise the Lord!
As we reflect and review what God has done for us in 2011, we can rejoice and praise Him for being so good to us. He made it possible for all of us to “do good works” for His glory. We had the great joy to recall the many wonderful things He gave us in years past as we celebrated our 75th Anniversary as a Church on 24 September 2011. We had members who shared what God did for them as they recollected the “good old days” in Bethesda (Katong) Church. Prominent among the “good works” that we did was the church plantings of Bethesda (Frankel Estate) Church and Bethesda (Bedok Tampines) Church. We also planted a great Children’s Ministry in the operation of Bethesda (Katong) Kindergarten in the Frankel Estate area which till today continues to be an effective Children’s Ministry. God will continue to give us more “good works” to do for His glory in the years to come. What a great God we love and serve!
A current popular song we sing is “God is good, all the time and all the time, God is good”. How true this is for all of us in Bethesda (Katong) Church. A promise God has given us is: “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” (Heb. 13:5b, 6). God’s promises are sure and steadfast and we can always trust in them – what He promises He will do. We simply need to be “fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith” (Heb. 12:2a) as we proceed with confidence into 2012. To God be the glory!
