Bold I Approach

A favourite hymn by Charles Wesley “And can it be that I should gain” that we sing on many Sunday mornings has the last verse:

No condemnation now I dread;
Jesus, and all in Him, is mine;
Alive in Him, my living Head,
And clothed in righteousness divine,
Bold I approach th’ eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.
Bold I approach th’ eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.

How do we approach Almighty God? What is our attitude when we attend Church services, go for Bible studies or even when we pray alone? Do we often give ourselves some leeway in coming a little late to Church services? Do we reflect on the Bible before going for our Care Group meetings? Do we talk to God like He is our buddy, buddy without any form of reverence at all? Do we come to Him in prayer with a long list of requests, purely to complain and shout out to Him?

In Heb. 10:19-25 we are reminded to enter God’s presence confidently because of what Jesus did on the cross of Calvary for us. However, what does it mean to enter God’s presence with boldness? We have to remember that everything is based on what Jesus did for us and nothing on our own merits. Hence, we approach God with reverence and humility. Entering God’s presence with boldness would also mean to be sure of how Jesus’ blood has washed away our sins and daring to believe in how God use us to write His story. Many a times, we tend to limit God to our little requests of perhaps getting good results in exams, good work opportunities or even opportunities to share the gospel with colleagues and friends. However, our God is a big Almighty God who accomplishes His big work. He desires to involve us in his mighty plan if we use our free will wisely and allow Him to use us. Thus, we are encouraged to boldly approach God’s Throne with our desire for revival in our Church, our country and even the world. We ask Him for the burden for people and the need for them to come to Him and believe in Jesus Christ.
